Hey! I’m sure you all noticed, but I don’t update this blog anymore, I was mainly using it to collect images for my senior thesis so I could show my class inspirational images/text without sorting through a bunch of dumb gif posts first. The good news is, if you are interested in me as a person/don’t mind following a personal blog - you can follow me over at serenichi.tumblr.com ! I post there all the time, about a variety of things, including fat & body acceptance. At the moment, I’m not deleting this tumblr, but it will remain inactive indefinitely. Thanks! <3

“Oh, but this is not a matter of “glorifying” obesity. Glorifying obesity would take multiple TV shows depicting fat folks riding unicorns and devouring warm pies whilst counting the bags of money they’ve gained from being fat. Indeed, if simply putting fat people on television was enough to “glorify” obesity, then The Biggest Loser should have done the trick years ago. It hasn’t, because The Biggest Loser is a show built on the humiliation and punishment (self-inflicted or otherwise) of fat people. When we say that putting fat people on television will “glorify” their bodies, what we really mean is that we are uncomfortable giving fat people any attention that is not overtly negative. Because fat people need to be told: don’t be fat. Being fat means you are not entitled to a normal life. Being fat means you are not entitled to love. Being fat means you are not entitled to humanity, much less dignity.”

This says something about the medical community, that even a minority of doctors think this is acceptable behavior. […] Given these attitudes, is it any wonder that there might be a statistical correlation between obesity and health problems? Avoiding the doctor is a major health problem in and of itself, as is failing to receive life-saving screenings for cancers that are treatable and survivable, as is simply believing that we do not deserve respectful and well-informed health care that is invested in treating us as whole people. The popular “Those damn fat people are using up all the healthcare!” guilt-trip allegations reinforce this idea to the extent that avoiding the doctor—that we don’t consume more than “our share”, a worry common enough amongst fat people already—seems normal and appropriate, when it’s wrong and unjust.”

I printed more shirts today, and I’ll have them available for sale next week. I wasn’t able to do a big run of these, because I’m really broke, I’m graduating soon and this was my first experience with screenprinting. If all my shirts sell, I’ll use that money to buy vinyl stickers of the fat mermaid character on the site. :D

My last set of papers dolls! Well, I might draw more for fun later, but this is the last for the class I’m taking. Didn’t have time to draw them new shoes however! Dresses from left to right are Christopher Kane Spring 2011, Jeremy Scott Fall 2011 RTW, and Betsey Johnson Spring 2011 RTW. The theme of the outfits is outfits I would choose to wear for a spring event, possibly Easter.

I think this is a really cool diagram showing different body shapes. Of course this isn’t exactly all body TYPES, as they are all the same height and probably the same weight, but I do think it’s a great diagram to show how weight can be distributed differently! I wish the original artist would of did some work with the legs however, that would of sent it over the top.

Today I was a fabulous model for my thesis project, which is a line of shirts that promote fat acceptance. I designed all the lettering and screenprinted them by hand. I have a web store set up to sell them, but I’ve only printed a couple test shirts so far and will be printing more later this week after I am done with school.

If you are interested in any of them, please drop me a line (reblog this or message me) preferably with a shirt size, and I can make sure there are enough in specific sizes when the store goes live. There will also be stickers for sale as well, including a fat mermaid sticker!
